International Conference SDH
- International Conference SDH
2nd International Conference on the Social Determinants of Health
When: November 23, 24 and 25, 2021
How: on-site and online
Why did the conference focus on the Social Determinants of Health (SDH)?
It focused on the SDH because they are the conditions in which people live, age and work and have a critical impact on our health. Our health is determined by income level, housing, transport, working conditions (or lack of employment), education, gender inequality, the environment, social integration and participation – as well as access to health services and their quality – all of which cause unjust and avoidable inequalities around how we fall ill and die.
In fact, in every country in the world we can find health inequities caused by the SDH. Mozambique is no exception. Many of the country’s most important health problems are influenced by these determinants.
To date, health research in Mozambique has been almost exclusively biomedical. However, we understand the country is facing challenges that go beyond this narrow focus and believe we cannot improve individual and collective health without better understanding the determinants that affect it.
